PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES VS. ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS – 6:41PM
The Phillies are in town tonight to kickstart a four game series against the surging Arizona Diamondbacks. These teams are both vying for seeding positions in the postseason and bring different kinds of momentum into the matchup. While the Phillies have won 3 out of the last 4 of their games including 2 wins against the Dodgers in LA, they currently have a 6-12 record since the All Star break and carry a comfortable 7.5 game lead on the Braves in the East Division. Meanwhile the Diamondbacks are the hottest team in baseball since the All Star break with a 14-4 record which has carried them to the first wild card position and they’re only 3 games back on the Dodgers for the West Division lead. The Dbacks are playing with a sense of urgency that is unmatched in the MLB right now and they don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. The game tonight is featuring what will probably be the weakest pitching matchup for both sides. The Phillies are starting Kolby Allard who has 2 starts this year with 4 innings pitched in each start. The Diamondbacks will be going with Jordan Montgomery and anyone that follows the Dbacks knows about the disappointing season he’s had so far. Ironically the last time Montgomery threw for 6 innings or more was back on June 21st in Philadelphia but even in that outing he gave up 5 hits and 2 runs including a homerun. Where I’m getting at here is that this should be a game that heavily features each team’s bullpen and with how well both teams have been hitting lately (Dbacks have 19 runs in their last 3 games, Phillies have 18 runs in their last 3 games), we can expect more offense tonight than usual. Hitters props are going to be good bets to leverage in this game and a play on the over total run line is wise to consider as well. Looking at the hotter offensive team out of the two, there are some great trends going on amongst the Dbacks hitters that we can look to exploit. Corbin Carroll has regained his Rookie of the Year form from last season and has been on a tear since the Allstar break. He has scored 16 runs in the past 18 games and failed to score a run only 4 times (1 of those 4 games happened at home). He is practically a shoe-in to cross home plate at least once being the leadoff hitter in a home game. Ketel Marte has 23 RBI’s in the 18 games played since the All Star break. He has failed to get an RBI in only 6 games (it happened at home twice). Let’s look to profit off these trends. Count on Corbin Carroll to score a run and Ketel Marte to get 1 or more RBI’s.
The picks:
Ketel Marte 1+RBI’s
