MINNESOTA LYNX @ NEW YORK LIBERTY –  5:00PM

The WNBA Finals kick off today with Game 1 taking place in New York as the Minnesota Lynx are set to take on the Liberty. It’s only fitting that the two teams that played in the Commissioner’s Cup Finals back in June get to rematch for the biggest prize of them all. The Lynx have beaten the Liberty in 3 of their 4 matchups this season, including a tight 94-89 victory in that Commissioner’s Cup game. Napheesa Collier has been nearly unstoppable, averaging close to 30 points per game in the playoffs, and Minnesota’s defense has proven effective at containing New York’s high-powered offense. The Liberty enter this game as 6.5 point favorites with most oddsmakers as they bring a better combination of talent and WNBA finals experience into the series but you cannot sleep on the Lynx here. With their ability to keep games close, especially against the Liberty, there’s strong value in backing the Lynx to cover the 6.5 point spread. AI suggests a 65% chance that the Lynx cover while Sporttrade has the spread priced at 52.5% implied probability. Look for this to be a competitive series with the winning margins being very small each game.

The Pick: Minnesota Lynx +6.5 Spread

SAN FRANCISCO 49ers @ SEATTLE SEAHAWKS –  5:15pm

The 49ers travel to Seattle to take on another divisional rival in the Seattle Seahawks after an embarrassing defeat at home against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday. After the first 5 weeks of the NFL season the Niners find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they currently rank 3rd in the NFC West with an under .500 record while Seattle is first with a 3-2 record. Suffering another loss within the division at this stage of the season could have a tremendous impact on the Niners ability to get a bye in the first round of the playoffs and it may seal their fate as a wild card team in the postseason. Look for the Niners to start this game strong as they will surely be treating this matchup as a must win opportunity. Through 5 games played this season the Niners have had strong first halves scoring on average more than 12 points in the first two quarters. In 4 out of 5 games so far they have been leading by 2 or more points at halftime. The first half spread in this game is -1.5 and most books have this market priced essentially as a pick ’em. AI is recommending a 60% chance the Niners cover the -1.5 spread at halftime while the -110 price on the odds equates to about 52% implied probability. Back the Niners on the first half spread so you don’t have to worry about a likely 2nd half breakdown.

The Pick: San Francisco 49ers -1.5 1st Half Spread
